UFO Sighting – Oxford, England

In 1987, just on the outskirts of Oxford, England, I had a very strange experience. It was about 11.30pm and I was driving along the Oxford ring road, which has nothing but fields to the left. Although it was dark, the sky was clear and I became aware of a bright light about 60 degrees up – almost in front of us and a little to the left. The road is long and slowly turns right, so although it was almost in front of me, it would have been over the fields, some distance away.
Now you must know that I am a fisherman and I have spent many nights, night fishing so I am familiar with planes, planets, satellites etc and how they can look very strange at night if looked at at certain angles. And I am interested in astronomy so I know the stars and planets. What caught my attention was that this light was very bright. A bit like Jupiter but ever brighter and more of a white light. Jupiter is quite yellowish. As we (my wife and me) got further along the ring road we seemed to be getting closer to the light. And now it did not seem to be just one light, there was more to it but I could not quite make it out. By now I was very intrigued, I did not think it was a plane coming head on with it’s landing light on and UFOs was not even on my mind at that point.
We got to a roundabout and the light was way over to the left now, so I turned left which took us out into the country. As we got closer, more detail came into view. It did not seem that far away now and appeared not that high up either. We could see a white light but with red ones around it too. Not the flashing lights you get on planes.
There was no one else on the road and I pulled over to take a closer look. The light was not stationary but moving generally in our direction until it passed us and headed towards Oxford. To say how big it was or how high up was impossible because you had nothing to compare it with. We had never seen anything like it. It was what I now know as the classic black triangle. Black and triangular in shape with a red light underneath in the center and a white light on each point. Let’s say if you were to see a bus in the sky you can tell how far away it is by it’s size because you know exactly how big a bus is. With this it could have been massive and far away or quite small but close to you. It was something that came in useful when I started investigating UFOs as I understood how confusing it can be and what it does to your mind. You are looking at this thing but can’t believe what you are seeing. It was silent too as I could tell, and did not seem that far away as it passed quite high over our heads. I knew then that it was not a plane or anything else. We turned round and followed it back to Oxford for a few miles but it was getting away from us, then it turned away from the city. Once I got into the traffic I could not follow it anymore.
The next day I reported it to the local UFO group. A few days later they told us many people had reported the lights and that it seemed to have followed the M40 towards London, before disappearing out of sight. Nobody could say what it was. The police also got a few phone calls from the public as well. It’s nice to know we were not the only people to see it. I think one reason we saw it was because I was with my ex. She seems to attract things like that! She has had lots of strange things happen to her, I’ve told you about the poltergeists and things. In her childhood she has seen what I think were UFOs. She described them as orange globes hovering over trees.

thanks for sharing this fascinating story. I’ve done a bit of research into the black triangle shaped craft. Does the pic i found look anything like what you saw?
Here is a good explanation of how it is reported to move:
“One subset of the UFO phenomenon has broken through to the mainstream. These are the infamous triangular craft. The reports are simply too many and too clear. The sizes of these triangles have ranged from small to immense. Most are slow-moving and low-flying; occasionally people describe them as boomerang-shaped instead of triangular. The fact that they fly so low, and so slowly, is a problem that demands an explanation, both scientifically and politically. Complicating the matter are the many witnesses who describe exceptional speed and maneuverability relating to these triangles, such as flat pivot turns or incredible acceleration.” (Richard Dolan)
I too believe in ufo’s and that we can’t be the only exsitence in the universe, I left a comment on EP”s myspace cause I thought the pic resembled stonehenge, which was supposedly built for the phases of the moon, but didn’t they say somewhere that aliens could have been helping the Egyptians building the pyramids??????
Hey Isis, you are on good track there, how can there not be other existances when we look at the universe and all the planets around us. It’s more likely than not and when you mention stonehenge and the pyramids, well there are many reasons for this which keep cropping up. I’ll get back to you on that as i have research in that area which i need to copy. You’re definately on the right track though there Isis!
Absolutely fascinating experience! I have always felt a little disappointed that everything I ever saw that I thought could have been a UFO turned out to be something quite the opposite. This sounds like the real thing…I would have been completely frozen if I had seen something like what you describe.
It would be extremely egotistical to believe that we are the only life in the universe. Here in the States, our government has information on UFO’s that is kept an iron-clad secret. The famous “Area 51″ isn’t even listed on maps….and if you happen upon it, I guarantee you will not get past the gates. If UFO’s aren’t real….why are they trying so hard to keep the information in this place secret?

Brilliant comment Scary, exactly, why is area 51 so secret, there is definately something being hidden there. Wouldn’t you just love to get a job there or in government? just to find out what its all about.
Is that the one where they had a Ufo siting in Texas in the 1960′s?
No Isis, this one was in Oxford, England. They might have had one in Texas but i haven’t heard about that.

Area 51 is in Nevada…it’s official explanation is that it is a military base where weapons and aircraft are tested. The reason a lot of people believe that Area 51 has a connection to the governments alleged knowledge to UFO’s is because of the intense secrecy and the fact that for years the government denied it’s very existence. Indeed, many feel that the actual location of area 51 is in Roswell New Mexico where there were reports of an alien spacecraft crashing in the desert in 1947.

I’m not sure about anything in Texas in the sixties, but it seems I read something of someone’s personal accounts around that time….that may have been it.
Oh I just read that, wow, isn’t there somewhere else in Arizona, also where there where goverment coverup’s????

hi andrew thanks for your story. isnt it so much better when others can confirm what you have seen? i think its great. i too believe that the government hides information from the public. i wish they would just tell the truth. i dont think people would panic, people have seen too much these days i think, to be affected by this. i certainly wouldnt be surprised if they had an actual ufo/alien.
I agree Rebecca, why don’t they just tell us, it’s not right keeping all that exciting stuff to themselves.
I don’t think people would panic nowadays either, i think it would make most have something exciting to think about in their lives.

I agree ep it would bring excitement to peoples lives. Hey, I bet they could make some money too by maybe displaying their findings in a museum or something. Gosh wouldn’t that be do cool?!

Hello Rebecca, thank you for your comment on my story. Yes it is nice to know others can confirm what i saw that night. Or else you may start to think your having a funny turn lol. Since then I have researched into the UFO phenomena a little and it is such a deep twisting story. I have no doubt that these things exist but what they are is a more difficult question. Inter-dimensional universes are being thought of as fact rather than Sci-Fi and I think UFO’s have away of visiting us from other worlds/universes which we are only starting to seriously think about. I have heard many explanations, they are hear for our DNA as their world is dying, we are just an experiment to them and they are checking up on us, or we are being watched until we have grown up enough as a race to be allowed into the cosmic club so to speak. Which will be a very long time yet!
It would be great if the government computers went all screwy about UFO’s and then our bills became all messed up! That’s the part i’m looking forward too and they don’t know who owe’s what!

I recall an incident in Texas, back in the 60′s I think. A woman had a couple of other persons in her car when a odd looking UFO landed on the road. The woman got out of the car to approach the craft. She suffered acute radiation poisoning, which was determined by a doctor she visited sometime later. The passengers in the car apparently didn’t get as much exposure as she did. I think the craft may have been shaped like an egg, having three “feet” to land on. The surface of the road was burned pretty good from landing and take off.
The woman kept seeking medical treatment, but didn’t have much luck as I recall. She visited the landing site later to take pictures, but someone ripped that section of road out and replaced it with a fresh layer of asphalt I think. Ultimately, I’m not sure what happened to her. Depending on how much of a dose of radiation she received, she may have died not too long afterwards.
