THE HAT MAN OR SOMETHING ELSE?
I had a very strange experience last night and I want to ask everyone what they think it could have been. I’ve lived in my house for quite a number of years and never experienced anything here, also I am sensitive and can sense when presences are around. I’ve never had those feelings here though.
Last night I put my children to bed and I was sitting alone in the living room on the couch. I was watching tv but I had my laptop in front of me on the coffee table. When a commercial came on the tv I went to look back at what I was dong on the laptop, but instead I happened to glance at the wall. I saw a shadow, but it wasn’t a normal shadow it was darker – almost black and I saw a wide brimmed hat it was wearing, it was about 4″ feet tall. I don’t know if the rest of the shadow was cast on the floor or what! I also noticed it had a long nose and I had automatically, for some reason, got the impression that it was an old person. I saw this for about 15 seconds then the shadow appeared to have crouched down, it didn’t slide, it just crouched and disappeared into the next wall. I didn’t feel afraid, I don’t think I had the time too. I didn’t feel anything evil or that it was a foreboding presence, it was more like a shock at what I was seeing.
Like I said I’m sensitive and today I don’t feel anything here in the house.
I was wondering if this could have been the hat man because of the hat, or if maybe, it was just a shadow person, but if it was just a shadow person why would the wide-brimmed hat have been so definitely in outline?
What does everyone make of what I saw??

When you emailed me about this, i couldn’t wait for you to write it, and you did a great job of describing this experience…wow after all these years at last you have another experience, which wasn’t too scary for you…thankfully!
Did this presence look at you, like turn it’s head towards you?
Thank you! I know another experience I thought they were over! I had the impression that it was looking at me or acknowleding me even thought it was just a shadow, that’s what I felt. I wonder if it’s something in my neighborhood that just passed by or if I’ll see it again.
It looked at you?….ewwww, i would have freaked for sure! Well, that rules out a residual haunting then. I don’t know much about hat men, but i think Scarygirl does, it will be interesting to see what she says in reply to your email this morning…hopefully she will comment on here too, so others can see.

I’ve done some searching and The Hat Man seems to be a malignant entity in most experiences.
Seeing as how you are a sensitive person I can imagine you would’ve felt him/it before.
Personally I have always been blisfully unbothered by Paranormal happenings in my waking live apart from some terrifying and dangerous encounters.
Another thing the Hat Man seems to be associated with is Night Terrors, and shadowpeople (extremely frightening nightmares which cause you to scream kick and fight in your sleep unable to wake up or be woken, after the person wakes he/she will never remember what caused the fear, they tend to still be very uneasy and scared even after waking up, even though they can’t rember what happened.)
ANother thing I want to ask you how old your children are and if you have ever encountered him/it before. children tend to attract and cause things at a young age and this is worse when one or both parents are gifted in a way.

hi, I know what you are going through, in my house i have to lay down to use my laptop because of health reasons. When i am in my room by myself, someone or something pushes my bed, I look to see if anyone is in my room. There is no one around, I think to my self okay that was weird. Then after everyone is bed, In my hallway a dark shadow runs from one room to another, I go and check it out, its gone. This happens alot in my house. My nepthew stayed in one of the bedrooms one night. He woke up, he said it felt as some thing very heavy was on his chest, He could not for a min, after that happen to him, He started to sleep on the couch.
That sounds horrible experiences for you and your nephew Larry, i have had that feeling of on the chest before too, like your nephew had, but i think that was down to sleep paralysis in my case.
Does your experiences happen when you are fully awake larry?
Shadow people or dark entities may shape shift,remember they see you even when we dont they can easily presume what your current thoughts are and use that to their advantage for their own private amusement.A friend of mine has had some as tiny as a 750ml bottle dancing around the top of her bulb she freaked out and moved out,these things are malevolent nature.You should immediately banned them from entering your house.
StrangeUniverse, are you talking about things like mischevious spirits?
I think I have something simular to that in my house. I have seen a shadow person on several ocassions, but I think it is more of a residual. The mischevious one likes to play tricks on people. [like my cleaning lady] Whenever she is here it turns lights off and even one time a light bulb blew up while she had her back to it dusting. That was scary and dangerous, because if she had been facing it, the glass could have gone in her eyes. I have had noises like knocking on walls and creaking floor boards, that I have become acustomed to, but whatever is in my house now I think is seeking attention, but I ignor it and hope in time will leave for good.
Hey Isis! I’m glad you shared this here, and it looks like you are getting a variety of responses! If you can rule out it being a trick of the light or some other natural explanation, then I would start documenting everything that is going on. Even if it seems insignificant, write it down.
Most of what I have heard about the Hat Man is that it is associated with a negative feeling. I have often wondered if that isn’t just our perception of it. I know that if I saw a menacing shadow, the first thing I would think would be that it is something negative. I have also heard that the Hat Man is a watcher of sorts…observes what is going on, and possibly feeds off of any negative energy.
Maybe that’s why he didn’t hang around, Isis..I know that there is a lot of positive in your home!
Hi everyone, thank you for your comments. To Icarus my daughter will be 9 in October and my son is 6 1/2 years old. We have religion in our family although I wouldn’t say we are Bible thumpers or even go to church on sundays, my childern were even in Catholic school. I don’t know why it passed by my house unless it got lost along the way but like I said I felt no menace or anything evil it was turely a surprise to have seen that. Also like I mentioned it crouched away like it didn’t want to be seen but I caught it by accident. I did have the impression it was looking at me. I wonder why if the hat man is associated with negative feelings why I didn’t feel threatend?

Therefore from what I’ve read of the hat man I don’t think it is him/it 
Has your son or your daughter ever had invisible playmates? Often when that happens it’s because they actually have one but the adults sorta just dismiss it out of hand, and then everything which might prove it is really is neatly and carefully tucked away in a dark deep corner of the barin just to be forgotten 
It could be this, or it could be something different someone who sent something but masked it in a way that you couldn’t feel it, although this might be fairly farfetched.
Hi there Nancy yeah they are very mischevious they will make you think they are either children or something you can handle most of the times but far from it coz you cant trust something you cant see.You should get rid of it in times its mischeviousness will increase and get really bad,remember they dont view time as we do so ten years for us could be ten days.Ask it to get out very firmly when you do for a while it should be ok but it will almost certainly return in that case get rid of it for good!
I don’t know that much about this so-called hatman, but shortly after my husband abandoned my 13 year old son, 3 year old daughter and my self I started cleaning foreclosed homes to make some extra money. One of the homes gave my mother and I really weird feelings and my daughter would not leave anyones side. A short time later my daughter told me that she had seen a tall man with a tall hat. I dismissed it, until I was alone one night and went down to the basement to get another box to unpack and when I came around the corner of the stairs he was standing there not a shadow really but not real either…Any ideas and does this thing follow you around after you move?
I’m sorry about the husband leaving. No it doesn’t follow me, I’ve only seen it that one and I haven’tseen it since. My friend said it might of just been something passing through???
Somthing else for me to keep me up at night.My girlfriend that i just talked to about a hr.before said she used to see a shadow when she was younger.I asked her if she was in bed.Was she asleep and suddenly awoke seeing these shadow people.She asked “does it matter?”And she didnt say anymore.Tho i do believe in ghosts,spirits etc…i give a little less credance to people seeing them when they awake suddenly and see them as one tends to see and hear things in the while drifting off to sleep or waking up.Of course if there is ghosts,spirits,demons that we see and hear and feel.Then all the laws of physics goes right out the window.Thats why scientists explain away our experiences with them.Cause if they would admit they are real.Then they would have to wipe the slate clean and start over.So i can see why they try to explain super natural experiences.As i said in a previous post.With UFO”S,big foot,loch ness monster,time travel etc.theres somthing to latch on to.But with ghosts,spirits etc,they make no logical sence what so ever.But yet 10″s of millions of people have experenced them,not only now but since the dawn of civilation.Time travel is indeed possible.But since i dont know what time is or what space is i cant even try to figure it out.The same is true with sprits,ghosts etc.Cause theres absolutely nothing for my mind to latch on to.

I’ve never seen anything, just heard and felt things, which was enough. It must be more shocking when people see ghosts, like Isis has on two occasions. I can’t immagine the fear!
I have seen a ghost.I was living with a girl at the time.I saw a woman who was wearing a brown robe.As i later found out everyone who was living at that house had seen her.But i was more afraid of the girl i was living with than the ghost.Also the ghost i had seen was much prettier.But i think since i was new in the house she was just introducing herself to me.I wasnt afraid really but this experience didnt help my insomia much.
Hi eyepriestess.Can u explain what it was u heard and seen?Isis after i read about hat man on this site i started reading about this “thing”on other sites.Tho my mother is a pastor and she has been for over 60 yrs.Im not really a christan im sorry to say.But i do pray for time to time.I also try to have a more positive attitude that i used to.I no longer let anger consume me.I believe in hat man simply because so many people has seen him and the shadow people.From what ive gathered these shadow people are evil and they are trying to enter into our world.Though im not a christian because i had it forced on me since childhood.I do believe there is good and evil in this world.I believe that we all need to let go of our negative feelings and the anger and hate we feel.I belive that all of us need to bow doown before God every day and pray.We need to accept the fact they are real and they are tring to destroy us mentally,physicaly.I also know there is a higher power that loves us very much.This may sound stupid but when im down or scared theres a song that gives me confort.”When the clouds start to surround u,try to take your joy away.Makes u feel there is no reason for u to really shine today.Dont give in,just trust in him and be very strong”.Im probally going to bow out of this site because this is way out of my leauge “sic”here.But there are evil forces in this world.But im conviced there is a good force that is much more powerful.

I’m not afraid of the shadow person that walks through my house sometimes at night, because he doesn’t come near me. The other night I heard the floor boards creak, which they do when I walk through the house at night and it is real quiet. When I looked up I saw the shadow man walking out of my bedroom. It didn’t scare me, but just confirmed that he is still around. I have seen him walk out of the bath room and into the den before and in different parts of the house. I think he is residual because he doesn’t look at me and he just walks around.
You are brave Nancy, i’m sure lots who do see these things are very afraid.
Because you heard the floorboard creak, it kind of proves that the form, which is causing the shadow is solid, but the solid form is not able to be seen by us – only the shadow cast by the form. If you read the shadow people post, you might get what i mean here.
I would like to share an experience of my sister n mom…once there was a power cut in the night
My family lit a candle n sat in the darkness just waiting for the power to come on again n a dark figure of obscure shape started moving from one end of the wall to the another..it kept on moving haphazardly on the wall n my family just watched with curious eyes..mind u it was not some shadow of any object in the room as it was criss crossing the wall in random direction and and there was no flickering of candle as it was calm with no wind blowing. My family looked around the room for the source of the shape but to no avail…truly perplexing n bizzare
That happened to a friend of mine Rav. Only she saw the shape with a hat on its head. How big was your shape, was it a human shape?
