THE DANGERS OF OUIJA BOARDS
One of the world’s greatest paranormal mysteries… how can a board enable communication with spirits? and what are the dangers of Ouija boards?
In 1997 I took part in a Ouija board séance and without doubt had contact with something, which turned out to be evil.
I researched this so-called game for many years after my experience and I would like to share with you, ‘the dangers of Ouija boards’ and what you could be potentially up against, if you decide that the temptation to dabble with a Ouija is too great!
BUT FIRST – HOW DOES THE OUIJA BOARD WORK?
The Ouija board was invented in America with a device called, a ‘planchette’ – meaning ‘little plank’.
If you look at the above picture, the board is almost heart-shaped and the planchette moves around this. At the time of its making there were two castor’s underneath the planchette, which rotated once a pencil was placed at the tip.
Annoyingly for the players, the messages were often difficult to comprehend and were very time-consuming. Because of this, a whole host of different types of communication were being developed, but without much success at that time.
E.C Reich – a carpenter from the USA, then developed a lap top wooden board. He carved out the alphabet in a curve around the top of the board and then created another straight line underneath, with the numerals o-9 engraved. Reiche etched the words ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ in each bottom corner. He then replaced the pencil with an extra coaster, which gave the board more definition to the bottom of the heart shape. This then acted as the pointer as the planchette moved to each letter. (NB: some boards these days have the ‘yes’ and ‘no’ at the top)
The planchette’s ease of movement and communication resulted in a major breakthrough with spiritual contact.
Great potential was envisaged for this product when Reiche then sold his business to two of his friends called, Charles Kennard and William Maupin, who began marketing the Ouija board in 1886.
In 1892 William Fuld took over the business development and changed the name to ‘Ouija Novelty Co’.
The Ouija board took off and Fuld (and later his brother became involved) remained successful for the next 35 years. By 1920 it was believed to have made over £1m profit and was also credited as being William Fuld’s invention…a claim Fuld quite rightly denied.
Remarkably, in 1927 it was reported that Fuld committed suicide (aged 57 years old) by jumping off the Baltimore building (where his factory was based). This then gave the Ouija board an even more sinister appeal. However, other accounts stated that Fuld had fallen from the building whilst leaning against a railing, which gave way and led to his death.
Whatever the reason for Fuld’s death, the business was immediately taken over by his children, Catherine and William A. Fuld who continued to market this phenomenon until ‘Parker Bros’ took over in 1942.
Spirit communication similar to the Ouija has been used for centuries, even before the time of Christ. Its popularity is almost certainly due to the high and regular success rate with spirit communication.
However, people who use Ouija boards, or conduct séances without protection are ultimately sitting targets for psychic attacks, with a huge risk of attracting dangerous - ‘non-human’ energies, such as demons. It is believed that a demon’s goal is to free itself from its miserable existence and to enter into ours - through any means possible.
A Ouija board acts like a beacon of light, which reaches astral dimensions - once a game is in progress. This then becomes a portal of access for anything to come ‘unintentionally’ invited into our existence. Once in, this energy will attach itself to the most vulnerable person playing the game…usually the most naïve to the Ouija’s capabilities.
THE DANGERS OF OUIJA BOARDS
The Ouija board is one of the most dangerous occult games to ‘play’ and has caused many people to meet terrible paranormal occurrences. I was lucky enough to escape with just a memory.
MY STORY – OUIJA BOARD DANGERS
The winter weekend began where my colleague – Jen and I had been commissioned to Southampton, UK. A place Jen and I had never visited before.
The hotel was huge and very old, but we settled in and unloaded our luggage before going out for a meal.
On our return to the hotel, my husband fell asleep very quickly. However, I was in no mood for sleep, so I went over to Jen’s door opposite ours and knocked.
She was still awake and we made our way down to the hotel bar in the hope it was still open.
We were very happy to see two staff drinking after finishing their shifts, so we asked if we could have a drink. They said we could and to join them at their table.
We sat beside a huge open fire-place and listened as the staff were arguing about whether the hotel was haunted. Jen jokingly suggested they hold a séance.
They agreed and said there was a Scrabble set behind the bar we could use for the letters.
The barman, who I shall call Mark (but cannot remember his name), set out the letters in a circle shape, then he positioned the words YES and NO either side of an upturned wine glass. The four of us then placed a finger on it and began our game.
Mark asked the usual “Is anybody there?”
Nothing happened for a while, but then I began to experience a strange sensation. (It is very difficult to describe, but I will do my best). It was as if a haze surrounded us…not a visible haze, just the feeling of one. This is when I suspected something was about to happen.
Then the glass began to circle the inside ring of letters, with only the very tips of our fingers touching it.
“Who are you?” I asked. The glass then moved with an eerie ease, as it spelled out the name…’****** ******’. (Sorry name obscured in respect of privacy)
The other barman who I shall call Geoff, accused Mark of moving it, which made him cross, so he got up from the table and walked to the bar.
Geoff took his finger off the glass and sat back from the game. I asked whatever was in the glass to prove it was really working, and it immediately spelt out a word:
GOSS
Geoff said, “That’s… my surname.” Then he pointed to the glass again. “Look! It’s spelling out my name – AGAIN!”
I had never felt this frightened in all my life. Then (I don’t know what made me ask this) I said, “Is there a God?”
The glass set off again, this time almost gliding as it formed a figure of eight shape over and over again. Then it seemed to become annoyed and began crashing into the letters – sending them to the floor.
We all stood up and looked at one another. I have never seen such frightened faces in all my life. This is when we parted company, but it didn’t stop there…
Some time later (I can’t really remember how long), something occurred that I can only put down to messing with the Ouija.
I felt restless on this particular evening and stayed up quite late into the early hours of the morning. Eventually I decided to take myself off to bed. On entering the bedroom, I bent over the bed to climb in when suddenly something struck me hard in the back. I sensed instantly the strike was not from a human and I lay wheezing and unable to scream. I just waited. I then began raising myself up — it hit me again in the back, but much harder this time.
I sensed evil surrounding me and I slowly turned my head to face whatever it was. But it was too late — it hit me again in the back… striking me harder…it felt like it was inside my body now. I could hardly breathe and I now realised I was being possessed…or even about to die.
I prayed to God in my mind, and began raising myself up again. Immediately I felt what can only be described as a pulling sensation and then I fell on the bed…’it’ had gone.
A presence of good seemed to fill the room for around a minute and I knew without any doubt that my prayer had saved me. All fear left me and as I lay there. I thought about the question I asked during the séance… “Is there a God?”… I had been given the answer and I have never stopped believing in God since!
New Testament: Matt 12:43-45: “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.”
NB. The name ‘GOSS’ is the real surname of the person above, as he is probably still alive and hopefully will see this post and contact me. We have not met since that night in the hotel, but I hope he will recognise this story one day.

i agree…its very much a personal thing in the end, but sometimes two or three people have the same experience… but its not the world… some people will never have a paranormal experience….infact i think out of fear some close off that “third eye” and i think we have to keep open to the paranormal as real….i wonder did you change much …in your outlook after your experience? mine affected me badly…(the one with my father) i became withdrawn… and unsure of the world…and others
Oh very much so did i change…a completely different person. Before my experience i was completely logical and scientific in my approach to the paranormal. After my experience, i was lost. I had to take time off work to get my head around it, and this was only after my ouija experience. Gosh, yes!!! is my answer there!
i mean im perfectly alright with anyone… pleasent and caring…. but… it threw my ideas of the physical world into disorder… i still dont understand it all… i never will… but nothing i can do
I know how you felt, it was a life changing experience for me Paul…honestly! I couldn’t get my head around it all!
interesting….i think its difficult to just see the physical any more…. which is, lets face it, what we get bombarded with day and night on tv or anywhere…. but if youve had an experience…. its like looking at everything…. with this knowledge… and personaly i tend to seek more knowledge on the subject to in some ways make sense of or validate my experience …i read and have read so much on ghosts since my initial experiences…. used to sit up in bed reading books i got from the library…i wish now i had recorded in some way various ghost stories around britain…
im glad that whatever it was that you encountered…. left you alone…. early enough…. might have been much worse… i mean , psychologicaly the damage it could have caused…. though your experience was dreadful enough
What i did was to go onto websites and find out more, that’s what caused me to make my own.
I read everything too, it’s very hard to get your head around when ;you experience the paranormal. It took me a long time believe me and i got mocked too which i didnt like. I stopped telling people.
Paul, i now believe i am privaleged to have experienced it, try and think that way if you can
The experience i had with whatever came after me after the ouija board, led me to believe in God, so i’m glad in that way…although the experience was horrendous, i came through it! Gosh do i even get shivers just talking about it. I just wish people would leave ouija boards alone!
thanks …. i think its that i rarely meet others who have had an experience…. or maybe they just dont say….but its helped me understand a little more about growth of spirit self developement… because i beleive that the physical world is a platform to a much bigger experience… we will always be the stuff of our experiences…with life and others… in this or the next life…..even looking at a ouija freaks me…i mean on here…or anywhere… but i never have seen one in reality….maybe i was put off early enough…. because a girl from school told me of a local girl who did ouija and as she put it”something came in on her” and she went into hysterics…so that was enough for me… and what i have read since convinced me that they are bad news
I just want you to know that spiritual development is not through the ouija, or any other occult game, like tarot or divination. (you probably know all this, but just in case you didn’t).
Anyway, you do good to keep away from them, just don’t EVER let anyone persuade you to play. I do believe you had an experience, i can tell, i hope you you can get some peace from it, i know it’s hard, try sleeping with a Bible under your pillow, i do and it just gives me comfort.
No matter how many people mock you when you tell them about your experience, just feel privaledged Paul. And try and remember that your spiritual development is with Jesus. I honestly mean that, when God saved me from that demon attack i knew that he existed. God bless you Paul!!!! XX
thanks
what i meant was…. my belief is that we develope through experiences…. my way of spirituality… is nature…which i have always loved…and showing love to others… i was brought up christian… and some of the teachings are part of my spiritual developement…i take pieces of different understanding and put it together … but no, i definetly dont think ouija is spiritual developement or fortune telling… that was one of a number of experiences… so its not really just about that…though that was probably the most moving cos it was my dad….scary but…thought provoking…
God bless you too.. highpriestess
xx
What happened to your dad Paul? or have you already told me and i forgot? sorry if that’s the case.
I like you, you have good points of view and morals!
when i had that thunderous experience and the wall moved etc…. my dad’s body was still in coffin in a bedroom not next to mine… but after my brothers… he had died suddenly from a heart attack in that bedroom…someone at the time said to me … quite matter of factly…. “its the spirit leaving the house” an older woman… maybe she had experienced it all before
eyepriestess is the name, lol it came about after i posted a pic of my eye…im not no highpriestess at all!
ooooh i know lol… but thats only name i got to go by …. thanks … for compliment btw
i can tell you are also a good person
Oh yes, i remember now that incident, that was very nerve wracking for you. Who was that old woman do you know?
thanks back Paul, we’ll be having MAS (mutual admiration society) going on soon lol
Btw, my brother is called Paul, that’s what i was trying to tell you in his story, but i guess it’s ok here now!
cant remember who she was… but you know the types who turn up at funerals…. you never saw them before and you never see them again lol
Yes, funnily enough you do get them don’t you??? what did she say to you? was it you who head those thunderous raps or her?
opologies…eyepriestess…. i just realised what you mean… i been calling you by wrong name…. dont know what i was thinking off
no, she wasnt staying with us…. there was only my mum and a brother…. my brother i was told saw the wall move… as he was on other side of it in his bedroom… was quite late as i recall around this time… my mother told me about his experience he never said anything
Oh don’t think nothing of it, i just didnt want you thinking i was a high priestess of a coven of witches or something, lol
you may change … the bits where i called you highpriestess lol i feel so embarrassed… i bet thats the last thing you wana be lol
It’s quite funny really, the name can stay as it is, i’m sure my cyber mates will see that and think it’s funny too lol
Yeah, highpriestess of the Coven…after all my preaching about ouija boards, lol
im glad you see funny side lol…
There’s no wonder you are spooked by all this! Anyone would be!
lol but we still seek the answers…. only there arent any.. just clues
Of course, i have a sense of humor (too much sometimes, i’m English)!
you would need it lol
with all this ouija stuff or hooja as i call it
Well, that’s true, but i definately got my answers when i was attacked, so count me out on that one! That is the bit i love about my experience!
well… true…cant even imagine how terrifying that was… cos….it was physical attack
The ‘hooja’ (like it) would send you insane otherwise without it Paul, lol
True! and very life changing as you can imagine…and no, i wasn’t drunk, lol
well a guy i knew … he said he would do the online ouija ….lol
i said be very careful incase you bring some old carry on into your house
then later i was very interested…lol well how did it go?
he said he got something communicated..
What did he get happen?
no… im sure you werent… you know it happens… then i found a rosey disbelief settles over it, but you still no it happens
With this one, there was no rosey belief, it was thorny and very real. My goodness it was real, i still can’t get my head round it after 12 years..do you know!
just that it said its name was nobody…. im glad it was in his house not mine
im even scared to go in my bedroom last thing… its the trepidation of opening the door lol
yeah, i can see where you are coming from…. terrifying particulary as it struck you…. ive never been hurt by them
It said its name was ‘nobody’?
I know what you mean about going to bed alone, it’s really not good is it? lol
I felt it more than you would a human it was inside my body (without sounding disgusting), i felt it, i really did! It’s hard to get people to believe you, that’s the worst part!
yeah thats what he told me…. but then he always had a figure in his house…. he used to see… i like that take off with dawn french in bed and the glass going round at high speed …lol like everyone has that in bed lol
My mom told me that when she was younger a family member or family friend gave them an Ouija for christmas, FOR CHRISTMAS, and then she said my Nana grabbed that board up so fast and it was never seen again. I know not to mess with these, and I never will.
i certainly beleive you…. now im not sure i would if i had never had an experience… i would prob think oh yeah…. she been drinking or something like that…. but i beleive and your description is good …
I like how you capitalised for Christmas Anonymous, and i agree what a time to give you one of those!!! I’m glad your nana got rid of it…wise lady!
that was good idea! @anonymous
No, me too, and i wouldn’t have believed my brother’s experience either, had i not had mine…nor would he ever have told me. I believe almost anything is possible now!
i must admit i do like read real stories of ouija…on here… but im always glad its not in my house
