ROLAND DOE’S POSSESSION CONFIRMED

PART THREE

Roland Doe’s family was by now clear in mind that evil had possessed their 13-year-old son after he had conducted numerous Ouija board sessions. Their only choice left was to visit Father Albert Hughes at St. James Catholic Church in Mount Rainier for assessment.

Father Hughes was initially disbelieving and hesitant about the case. However, he agreed to conduct the interview…encountering probably one of the worlds most inconceivable, unearthly cases of possession known to date.

THE INTERVIEW

It was reported; as Father Hughes began interviewing Roland, the icy breath felt by the Doe family during their ‘supposed’ contact with Aunt Tillie had once more made its hostile return.

Still skeptical, Father Hughes carried on with the interview, which was soon followed by Roland spilling out a tirade of ungodly language directed at the Father. Hughes was evidently stunned but still remained unconvinced. However, this was swiftly dispelled when Roland suddenly began speaking fluently in Latin… a language he had never been taught.

At the end of the interview, there was apparently no doubt in Father Hughe’s mind that Roland Doe was indeed possessed as he immediately contacted his archbishop, Cardinal O’Boyle and asked his permission to conduct an exorcism. This was approved after the Cardinal studied the case and the medical evidence.

THE EXORCISM

The first exorcism of Roland Doe took place at the Georgetown hospital. Before the ritual, Roland was tied securely to the bed, which was a normal practice.

As the exorcism commenced, Roland launched a spitting frenzy directed at Father Hughes. It was reported the outpouring was sent with such force and incredible aim -  it was described as ‘beyond natural’.

The exorcism then came to its grisly end as the young boy began screaming obscenities at the Father and broke free from his restraint. Roland then manifested a power far beyond his years and condition - ripping a metal spring from the bed and slashing the Father’s left arm - resulting in Hughes needing over 100 stitches.

Roland promptly became peaceful after Father Hughes left the room – not referring to the exorcism at all; it was as though all memories had drained from his mind.

Roland was not considered to be in need of hospitalisation after the exorcism and was sent home. In the meantime, Father Hughes was unable to comprehend the reality of what he had witnessed and suffered a mental breakdown.

The case however remained far from closed; something needed to be done to help Roland. After his cousin had spoken with her professor, Father Bishop at St Lois University (mentioned at the end of part two), it was decided that he and his good friend Father Bowdern would visit Roland.

On March 9th 1949, Father Bishop and Father Bowdern, together with a young Jesuit priest, Fr. Walter Halloran went to Roland’s home. During the visit, they were horrified to discover Roland’s body had been disfigured with bleeding scratches to his chest. Other phenomenon was also witnessed, which resulted in Cardinal Ritter being petitioned by the priests in order to carry out another exorcism.

The exorcism was granted by Cardinal Ritter on March 16th 1949…soon afterwards the priests began the exorcism rites.

The exorcism took on a sinister air from the start, with violent bed movements reported, extreme hostile language and extensive spitting coming from Roland. When further bloody scratch marks apparently spelled out the words ‘hell’ and ‘devil’ it was decided for everyone’s safety – the exorcism should be carried on in the psychiatric ward at the Alexian Brothers Hospital.

At the hospital, Father Bowdern began the exorcism by reciting prayers from ‘The Roman Ritual’,  whilst Father Bishop wrote a diary of the events.

Roland began screaming in apparent pain as the prayers went on. At one point Bowdern was clearly shaken as the boy spat out the words, ‘I’m in hell – I see you – you’re in hell – it’s 1957.’

Roland then began spitting at the priests again. Fr. Halloran was reported to have said that Roland was an absolute marksman when he spat and stated that even with his eyes closed Roland would spit right in your face.

The exorcism went on for nights with each episode becoming more fearsome than the last. On one occasion Roland exploded with such rage, he hit Halloran with a force which broke his nose.

Bowdern then began reciting the Roman Ritual of Christian Exorcism over and over again:

‘I cast thee out, thou unclean spirit, along with the least encroachment of the wicked enemy and every phantom and diabolical legion. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, depart and vanish from this creature of God.’

After hours of reciting, Bowdern and the others were alarmed when Roland sat bolt upright and announced in a booming voice he was the ‘Arc Angel Michael’ and demanded the demon to leave Roland.

Roland writhed around – contorting his body in obscure positions until eventually he lay still. Then he sat up and spoke in his normal voice declaring to all the relieved witnesses, he had just seen a vision of St Michael holding a flaming sword. The exorcism was a success!

Twelve days after the exorcism Roland’s family moved from St Louis to Maryland. Roland later wrote to Father Bowdern telling him he was settled and had very vague recollections of what had happened to him.

The last report of Roland Doe is of a happily married man with three children and still living in Maryland.

The Catholic Church has a filed dossier which states that the possession of Roland Doe was ‘genuine’ with forty one signatures of witnesses to the events.

This series of articles is not only an accurate portrayal of a terrifying ordeal but also highlights the magnitude of effects the whole sequence of events has on many people’s lives, as well as the devastation endured by the poor victim.
I thank eyepriestess for the way she has approached this controvesial subject with such professionalism and unbiased authorship. It is indeed a great piece of work that will undoubtedly serve many serious researchers now and for many years to come.
The movie for me made light of a serious and devasting time in poor Roland Doe’s young life. This series of articles has set the records straight with clear understanding and accurate reporting, and should therefore be accredited with its true value and appreciation.
As a serious researcher looking for true facts I thank eyepriestess for this invaluable account. Well done indeed!!

  2. Handsome Harry says:

That was great eyepriestess, probably your best so far, It gives you hope in angels although i pray this never happens to me…..or you…..or my niece….or anybody undeserving!

  3. eyepriestess says:

    Thank you for the comments.

I am more than relieved to have finished this series of articles, it has been a complete headache gathering all the facts together and concluding which is likely to be the truth. I have chosen many statements gathered from priests and such credible characters when editing this story. It is the truth given to the best of my abilities.

  4. KAREN says:

I’ve heard about this being based on real events too,but if you go on google and look under real exorcisms it says that the movie was based on a kid named Douglas Deen in 1949 in the rural Washington D.C. area! Were there two similar experiences? Also they say that it was also based on the real possession of Analiese Micheal “Emily Rose”.

  5. eyepriestess says:

    Hi Karen,

Well that is wrong, there are alot of articles that are absolutely off the mark. I’ve studied the Jesuit priest diaries with a friend who has studied the paranormal and especially this story for over 20 years. He has 5,000 pages on the paranormal all researched in great detail. Both of us help each other out when researching and we make sure we have the facts. This article is very accurate.

There are 41 signatures filed with the Catholic church, all veryfying the events as i have stated above.

When you look for information over the internet, it’s best if you look at least 10 articles relating to the same subject. And then if you can get hold of the actual dossiers, then you know you’re on the right track.

  6. KAREN says:

Hi Eyepriestess, I’m not saying that this is not true,it’s just there are so many different versions of where the story originated. Once the author William Peter Blatty said that it was a true story about a boy possessed in Africa, hence the 2nd part of the movie. It’s true that the catholic church does not want to admit to these things, but I also heard that the Vatican has many cases on file that they don’t want to dissclose due to being embarrased. I loved your story it was very informative but why so many claims as to who was the real person who was possessed? Was there several that the church documented??

  7. eyepriestess says:

    Hi Karen,

I know you weren’t having a go, I totally understand where you are coming from as it took me months to decide who was right and who was wrong, but Roland Doe is the name of the boy. The boys name was changed to protect his identity as the whole family wanted anonimity. This is why the name and location is so varied. The age of the boy differs too.

The vatican covers so many things up, the film Stigmata gave a good example of this, I wonder if some of the events really happened in that film.

  8. Demon hunter says:

I have thought for many years the Vatican and numerous other organisations are just one big cover up. It is wrong – people should know what is happening…they have a right.

  9. KAREN says:

Demon Hunter, I agree but like Eyepriestess said most people want to be annonymous. For them they would be looked upons as nut cases

  10. KAREN says:

You’re right Eyepriestess when you said “I wonder if some of the events really happened” The part where the church was vandalized supposedly by a black mass, that’s a little far-fetched!

  11. eyepriestess says:

    Hey Karen,

you have a great enquiring mind, love to see that in a person instead of just believing everything verbatum…brilliant. We’ve been after this on the site for some time. It’s really starting to pick up lately, the traffic on the stats is incredible lately, over 300 page views per day at the moment and rising.

  12. eyepriestess says:

    Demon hunter,

cover ups will always happen to protect the masses from hysteria epidemics.

  13. KAREN says:

I’m going to see if i can download that movie Stigmata. I’ve never heard of that. I would like to see what they covered up. THANKS

  14. eyepriestess says:

    Karen,

it is believed to be the testament of Christ! and how you do not need church walls in which to worship God.

Imagine that being revealed…the end of the Vatican for a start.

Pay particular attention to the last part of the film, either at the very end or in the credits.

  15. KAREN says:

This is terrible me saying this being roman catholic,my husband who is from Italy also roman catholic said that the vatican is nothing but a business out to make money!

  16. KAREN says:

OH Eyepriestess, You are absolutly right what you said to Demon hunter! What about that case somewhere in south america where all the kids at the school supossedly became possessed? Then after the whole town believed it and it became an epidemic just because of one suggestion! I am totally ok with you on that!

  17. eyepriestess says:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your views, Roman Catholic or not, most religions are out to make money and this is why Christ’s alleged testament remains in the archives. He abhored the men in elaborate robes preaching in and outside the churches, whilst the poor stood outside and loving their God with their hearts.

  18. KAREN says:

no on the serious side (just a little humor there) It’s true that the majority of religious organisations do profit in some way or the other, I just don’t see how people can believe that if you send some t.v. evangilist money you will be saved! Religion now a days has become too kooky and freaky, I wonder why there were more cases of possession in the past in comparision with today? Or maybe we can look at that old scenario that they didn’t know how to treat mental patients. I for one find this story to be true there is no way you could invent that especially after the exorscim was preformed the guy was normal and has a wife and children

  19. Demon hunter says:

Evangelists who earn money whilst doing the work of the lord MUST be more frowned upon than people who do nothing.

  20. Carrie says:

It makes me sick that people are more interested in making money than finding meaning in Christs teachings.

  21. Laura says:

I think there is a god and a devil you cannot have one without the other…physics!

  22. eyepriestess says:

Hey, the whole point of my investigataion was to find the reasons behind the film and as usual it turns to religion obviously, lol, but that is OK, I do not mind one bit.

    Demon hunter,

you are right there. Cannot ref at the moment as i do not have time!

  23. KAREN says:

I agree with Demon hunter too.

  24. KAREN says:

Three boys are in the school yard bragging about their father’s. The first boy says my dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper,he calls it a poem, they give him 50$. That’s nothing says the second boy, my dad sribbles a few words on a piece of paper,he calls it a song, they give him 100$. The third boy says I got you both beat. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper,he calls it a sermon, and it takes eight people to collect all the money.

  25. eyepriestess says:

    Karen,

glad we have a comediene in amongst all of this, lol :)

I’ve been out all day today, this is why it’s taken so long to let the comments through.

  26. KAREN says:

I found that movie Stigmata, boy that looks interesting! haven’t been able to download it yet. Hey,speaking of people possessed did you see that movie Dorothy?

  27. KAREN says:

Guess that’s no really the same though cause she wasn’t possessed by a demon!

  28. eyepriestess says:

    Karen, it is good.

No, i don’t think i have seen Dorothy, probably have though having said that as i find i’ve seen them all. I often sit down to watch a horror and then realise i’ve already seen it at some point. Just in case i haven’t though what is it about?

  29. KAREN says:

Hi Eyepriestess, I think,if I can remember correctly it came out this year in march. It’s an Irish film about a little girl who lives on an Isle, although I can’t remember the name of the Isle. She becomes possessed by people who have died there, only cause the dead want the truth to be known that thier deaths were no accident like everyone believes. So the call in an American psychologist to find out what is going on…………….Not going to tell you the rest if you haven’t seen it!!!!! It wasn’t that bad,but I don’t know seeing how no one ever wants to watch it with me,to get others opinions!! Oh well I liked it

  30. eyepriestess says:

I definately haven’t seen it, not even heard about it which is strange. I’ll go try and watch it on u-tube at some point this weekend.

Do you live in France? But your English am i right? My brother used to live there, i’ll have to ask where though as i cant remember the name of the place.

Im off to the pics in about an hour with my daughter and then a Chinese, so won’t be on here until later. Suppose i’ll be talked into watching Madagaska 2…yawn :)

  31. Laura says:

Dorothy??? never heard of it either. I wanna see it now lol

  32. KAREN says:

Yes I’m in France but I’m not English,I’m American, been here for 10 years. I have the husband the two kids ,though I don’t want the dog, Tell me about it I get to listen to two little ones fighting over who’s going to be what character on the playstation games. HA,maybe in another 10 years I will have peace and finally have control over what I want to watch on the television!

  33. KAREN says:

Hey Laura go on google and look up “the film dorothy” I don’t know if it was in the U.S. I’m sure it was. But if not you can find it on the internet. Anyway it’s a recent film at least over here.

  34. eyepriestess says:

American hey, would love to visit America, it’s on my list to do before i die, as well as getting to watch what i want on tv ;) …know the feeling…grrr!!

  35. KAREN says:

Just to laugh, how many episodes of “little ponies” can you tolerate??

  36. eyepriestess says:

Mine used to be into telletubbies…ha ha, i know all their names off by heart and their interests and habits. My youngest is 12 now, but she still hogs the remote and kicks off something cruel if she can’t watch her programmes, which are now, Doctor who (not too bad) friends, simpsons, my wife and kids. Ok, they’re good programmes, BUT i’m sick of them!!!

  37. Laura says:

I’ll do that Karen, thanks for this lookin forward to see it.

Thats funny about the kids hoggin the tv lolz

  38. Laura says:

    Eyepriestess?

can the forum be opened yet? we can chat better in there :)

  39. KAREN says:

Those telletubbies I know my daughter has the pink one with the circle on it’s head…………I’m still laughing cause I know all the names for the Winx characters.

  40. eyepriestess says:

Laura, i’ll try and get it sorted this weekend as I don’t have to let comments in in there, you can just chat away.

  41. eyepriestess says:

Life is so boring isn’t it without you have control over the remote…i don’t know how people coped in the olden days before tv and radio was invented…geez

What made you go over to France? if you don’t mind me asking.

I must go now and get ready to pick Lucy up from her friends house and then off to pics.

  42. KAREN says:

Ok then I’ll get back to you . Oh and have fun at the pics tell me if you fell asleep!

  43. KAREN says:

Ok get prepared to be bored!! My husband is Italian, born in the cosenza province of longobucco(calabria or calabraise) When he was three years old the family immigrated here in France,so he was raised here, though speaks fluent calabraise/Italian. He went to the U.S. in Florida to open a restaurant called “La Calabria”. Florida was were I was living originally being from upstate NY. Unfortunatetly competiton in Ft Lauderdale is very hard and he closed his restaurant. We were already married and I said then we’ll go to France. It only took a week to get on that plane!!! Now here in France my husband has a restaurant……….”La Calabria”. It’s been 10 years now two beautiful children a girl and a boy.And if I didn’t bore you too much that’s why I came to France

  44. eyepriestess says:

That wasn’t boring at all Karen!! Does the business do well in France?

My brother did well in France but missed his family. He had a house bought outright and a bit of land etc, but came back to the uk with a mortgage and no land!…huh?

Never went to the pics tonight, ended up having a negotiation with my daughter in the car on the way on how she thought it would be best to spend the cinema and chinese meal money on clothes for me and her, so we did. Tee hee though, she got the best deal, i only have a vest top…how does she do it???

Opening the forum again this w/end hopefully, if i get the chance.

  45. KAREN says:

Hi,you know they have this unique talent for making you feel guilty! My daughter has more clothes than me. I wanted to go shopping for myself one time and made the mistake of taking my daughter with me,she ended up with new shoes,a skirt,tee-shirts…ect, I got a pair of jeans! Even at the grocery store she’ll she barrettes in the hair section “Mom can I have these”? No……then the guilt sets in…oh for goodness sake just put them in the shopping cart. I’m especially looking forward to when her tastes become more expensive.I think that it was Erma Bomeck ,who said “adolesence goes through three stages, first she’ll take all of your clothes, then after all your jewlery will go missing, but don’t worry a couple years later she wouln’t be caught dead in anything you’re wearing! I’m waiting for these days ha! What town did your brother live in? My mom was here for a visit and really loved it here! I like the lifestyle here more than in florida less stress and a better place to raise kids. It does have it’s dull moments though, but then I have to tell myself it’s me who said ok I’ll go live in France. The restaurant does pretty well, especially the summer with all the tourist, then with all the americans I have to take their orders. Well, I’m just going on and on……….does your brother still have the house here?

  46. eyepriestess says:

That is just what Lucy does Karen, exactly infact. If i can i’ll go shopping on my own it reduces the bill by at least half.

I can’t remember the name of the town he lived in, when he phones next week will ask him. I never went over to visit him, nearly did but it just didn’t happen. I have a dog and a cat which are quite tying when you want to go away, but i love having animals though.

Yeah, my brother said the way of life is so much more relaxed and he is considering going back again. You can get so much more for your money too with properties, or at least you could, not sure on that now.

Do you want to register in the forum as we can chat better in there and im sure people who read this post will be like, huh what are those two talking about, this is supposed to be about Roland Doe lol. 47. jeff says:

    To one and all,

I’m fairly sure I am the only guy here right now. Does this happen often? Do guys go to the chat room also?

I’m a bit compulsive, so I had to read all the replies, only to discover the subject got swept away about two-thirds of the way back.

Well, at least I can check out the “dorthy” movie.

  48. eyepriestess says:

Jeff, on the main site (here) there are on average 150 visitors a day, but on the forum where you can chat there are regulars. There’s Gregory Brown, Harry, batsinthebelfry (Andrew) and the rest are women. Andrew is really into UFO’s. He’s just about to post an article any day now. If you’d like to join the forum the link is here: http://www.worldmysteriesandtrueghosttales.com/community/index.php

It’s not as busy as David’s site as mine is only about 10 months old, whereas David’s site has been going for over 3 years now, so i’ve got a bit of catching up to do.

Hope you join the forum where you will be welcome!

  49. jeff says:

    eyepriestess,

I wanted to work with you and David since you guys were alread friends. I don’t really know what the connection is, and it’s likely none of my business, but I am going ahead to work on the UFO story by myself, off-line. David has his hands full too. As much as I enjoy reading other’s stories, I’d like to have one of my own.

    Hope you understand,
    jeff

  50. eyepriestess says:

    Hi Jeff,

if you would like any help with it, let me know, but at the moment i am unable to do this article all by myself as i have an art exhibit coming up in March and i haven’t even completed the first painting. I’ve also just got my computer sorted out, and that took some doing!

I’m very interested in the V formations and if you can put a good article together, you are more than welcome to post it on here with your copyright to it. Good luck with it, i know when i put the ‘true story behind the exorcist together it was a real headache gathering all the exact info.
I’m sure you can pull it off though Jeff!
