I have been doing some research on the Salem witch trials and have published my alternative history in a book titled Justice at Salem. I argue that some of the convicted were in fact practicing witches.
I also deal with the issue of sleep paralysis and discuss how that likely played a role. Strangely, I can’t find an example of this being argued before. Many of the accusers believed that they were attacked during the night by the alleged witches. From what they describe, it sounds like something that I once experienced. While going through a period of high stress I once ‘woke up’ in my bed, couldn’t move, and heard growling noises that terrified me. Nothing more happened and it hasn’t happened since. It was terrifying. I don’t think it was anything supernatural. It was just the body’s reaction to stress. Perhaps if more people realized this we would have fewer possessions, abductions, and ghost stories. But then life would be a bit less interesting.

I’ve watched video of a young girl who was being tormented by some invisible creature. Scrathes would appear starting at one point on the girls body and travel to another point, bleeding along the way. Bite marks would appear as they happened. The young girl was a very good actor, or maybe she was really bleeding, and bruising, and being bitten. I find it easier to believe she was screaming out of pain. She was certainly no actor.
