Is Contacting The Dead Wrong?
31/01/2010 by: eyepriestessIS CONTACTING THE DEAD WRONG?
Who Do We Really Contact During A Séance?
These are questions I have asked others and myself many times after a terrifying paranormal experience with a Ouija board. I have also wondered about the consequences of contacting spirits?
After researching this subject for the past twelve years there are two main theories:
1. The belief that conducting a séance or Ouija board session creates a high risk of attracting non-human spirits, such as demons (un-clean spirits).
2. The other is the conviction that the spirits of loved ones have communicated.
So which is right? Is there anything in the Bible, which could help us cast some light on this controversial subject? Whether you are religious, agnostic, a believer in the paranormal, it is worth looking at and analysing.
If we look at the following passage below, from Corinthians in the New Testament, it states that the devil is transformed into the angel of light:
“And no marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14)
Does this mean that the devil deceives us and can appear to us as an angel of light? Does this also suggest that if we try and contact the dead, then the devil or demons pretend to be our loved ones or a good spirit?
Elsewhere, the Bible clearly states in the various passages below that when we are dead, that is it until we are resurrected again.
“As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away, so he that goes down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him anymore.” (Job 7:9)
“For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything. Neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love and their hatred and their envy is now perished. Neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5-6)
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave, whither thou goest.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10-11)
“And when they say to you, seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter, should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?” (Isaiah 8:19)
This is what another person had to say about the above passages (a link to this is given below):
”Now, let’s just think about what we read and analyse it a little bit. It says that when you die, everything goes with you. Your emotions, your feelings, absolutely everything. And when you are dead, it says you never take part in anything that happens under the sun again. Just a few verses later, it says this: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave, whither thou goest.”
Now, did you catch that? It says there is no work or device after you go to the grave. So how could you possibly come back and take part in the séance at the beckoning of a spirit medium?
Now, I know what some of you are thinking. You’ve seen some pretty remarkable evidence that this is more than a farce. That there really is somebody or something making contact with us. And you know something? You are absolutely right.
A lot of what goes on in the séance rooms of this world is nothing but a con game. But sometimes it’s real. At times people make contact with something that isn’t human, and things happen that you can’t explain away with smoke and mirrors. And sometimes those voices still claim, very convincingly, to be the voices of people we knew and loved before we lost them. So what’s going on? Is the Bible actually wrong, or is there more to this than first meets the eye?
What’s really interesting is the fact that the Bible warns us strongly to stay away from anybody or anything that claims to communicate with the dead. For example, listen to this passage found in the Old Testament book of Isaiah (Isaiah 8:19):
“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? For the living to the dead?”
Another translation puts it like this: “So why are you trying to find out the future by consulting mediums and psychics? Do not listen to their whisperings and mutterings. Can the living find out the future from the dead? Why not ask your God?” In other words, you are not going to learn anything by speaking to the dead. And a much better source for information is to turn to the living God instead.
The Bible says there’s more than one side to the spiritual world. Not only are there good, un-fallen angels who work among us, but there are also fallen angels with an agenda to pull our attention away from God. And no matter how low they have to sink, they will do whatever it takes to steer us down the wrong path.
Is it possible that the voices that speak to you, even though they sound exactly like your dead husband or wife, and even though they seem to know things that nobody else could possibly know, is it possible that you’re hearing the voice of a fallen angel? Not only is it possible, but the Bible warns us that it’s absolute reality.”

I will be adding more to this article and inviting others to give their opinions too…
“8. Be self controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings”. (1 Peter 5:8,9)

IS CONTACTING THE DEAD WRONG? SCROLL DOWN TO COMMENT:
By J Reynolds, copyright 2010 @ World Mysteries & True Ghost Tales

Reports of exorcisms rising was highlighted on CBS news on 26th February 2008 and it’s still on the increase.
What’s behind the apparent rise in exorcisms?
Father Thomas Williams, Dean of Theology at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University in Rome and a CBS News religion consultant, told co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez on The Early Show Tuesday, “There may be two reasons. One is that there’s increased interest in the occult, even in Satanism. Where I live in Italy, Satanic worship is actually on the rise. And this is true in a lot of places in Europe. And the second reason I think is because people are less careful. Honestly, they maybe pray less. They play around with things they shouldn’t play with, and then they get into trouble. … Anyone can be possessed, but I think you really have to open yourself up to it. You have to be un-careful. And I think the spiritual demons, or bad angels, do exist, and I think it’s an extreme thing, but it happens sometimes.

Excellent article!
I do think that Satan has the capacity to deceive…and often does so. And it would stand to reason that he can disguise himself as an angel of light…after all that’s what he once was before he chose not to be.
I think there are those souls that for whatever reason that I don’t understand, have not crossed over. Again, I think it is possible that there is a choice involved… and maybe some souls choose to stay behind.
Again…I don’t know. Half of the fun in living is searching for the answers…and you have given a lot to think about here. Very well done!
Thanks scary,
same thoughts exactly, i know some people who have seen spirits of innocent children who seem to need help to move on, it’s very hard to believe that they are really demons in disguise, but who knows for certain. I’m doing so much research on this at the moment and hopefully some answers will come out of it. It all started because of so many people wanting to mess around with the ouija board on another site, they just wouldn’t listen to others who were warning them.
How’s the 2012 article coming along?
Eyepriestess, I think contacting the dead could be very dangerous!
When I was having activity in my home, some people were telling me to talk to them and ask them what they wanted. I was too afraid. My friend thought that they might have been departed family members, but I don’t think so.
I think they came to my house with a dream catcher, or from a bad storm we had and my home was damaged. I threw out the dream catcher and smudged my home with sage, that an Indian woman gave me. I haven’t had a lot of activity since then, but I still wake up at night when I hear noises. I never invited them here and I’m glad that I didn’t try to communicate with them.
Hi Nancy,
I remember you telling me about that incident with the dream catcher or whatever it was that caused the problems. I’m glad you didn’t communicate with what it was…it’s one of the most advised statements when we are dealing with the unknown…do not interact.
You are so right about NOT trying to contact the dead. I know from experience that it wasn’t a dead person that i contacted, it was a demon, so i go with what the Bible says on that…i will not be doing it again.
Thanks for your comment Nancy
its a difficult one… but i tnd to think of “the dead” as just the same people…who have gone into another dimension…the bible…can be very poetic…and im not trying to devaluate what others have said regarding it…or what they beleive in… but,i have read about such things for a long time and in particular out of the body experiences…where people have “died” for some short time due to accident etc…and tell of what they experienced….i remeber one man… had said… that “religion doesnt matter here” but he was given to understand by the being of light… that everything was connected…and if you hurt one thing you hurt everything…he said that when he came back to this world…. he still ate meat but with more reverence…this topic deals with what the bible…says… but lets not forget it is but one world religion…some religions beleive in re-incarnation…which i suppose is at odds with biblical teaching…i feel that the bible has some good stories…but also it was a kind of law book…i mean..no one here in england would follow the advice that a women who commits adultery should be stoned…a lot of passages in the bible..are guidelines to keep order… according to the thinking of that time in that area….now im no theologian…so i cant debate too much about the bible…. but i suppose i feel its story may have changed over the years…i cannot see how the grave is the end until everyone is united in one big glorious morn of light… that would..make a mockery of other religions… religion cant be wholy spiritual…its of man….we all settle our own consience on how we view the after life or..death…….and it is probably coloured by our own personal experiences… i tend to feel its about the minds/spirits survival… the sum total of what we have experienced on earth..is our essence/spirit…and to me this is a stage as someoneone once said…;)we take this personality into whatever dimension it is fitted for…and personal developement is growth of spirit…i beleive there are many dimensions..according to spiritual growth…some people may have moved on to better things and are not heard of..in spiritual form here again… others reluctant to leave the bounds of earth..and are “sandwhiched” between two worlds with an ability to enter this dimension…and ofcourse e have entities that never have been human…its all food for thought… but then ..everyone speculates…no one person knows for sure
i personaly think trying to contact the dead is just another way of opening a can of nasty worms. in recent years there’s been an escalation of whats “cool” and whats “out”. Religion and morals have taken a back seat and all the things that were seen as evil (seances, magic, idol worship, promiscuity,) are seen as ok so long as the are not taken to extrems. but i ask where does “cool” end and evil begin? its ok to do “white” witchcraft but wrong to dabble in dark magic a.k.a satanisim? dont all those things pay homage to spirits? be it nature, animal or ancient dieties. IN MY OPINION EVIL IS EVIL.THERES NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT. about five years ago just after my sixteenth birthday a friend said she had a messege from her “guide” . i was curious so i told my grand pa. he said to get away from her. later i was asked by my grandma to compare my generations belifs to those of her generation. this “research” was to look at all aspects starting with spirituality. naturaly i was sceptical bout the bible but i started reading. even though i’d been raised very religious and familliar to things beyond what we understand i wasn’t prepared for what happened……..anyway fast forward a couple of months….. am born again and already had some rather frightening experiences with my mates ‘guide”. being an old languages buff i managed to find an old 17th centuary latin book on demonology and conjuring spirits in the old church library. after reading the book i looked up some stuff on the internet and i realised that in recent years all the things we are supposed to be scared of have been projected as interesting and cool.. using the bible a a referrence the dead are dead in all aspects. once you die the door to the living is closed. none of your “essence” can come back. Evil is not supposed to look evil. if it did we’d all run away at the first glimpse………..any way i looked up some of the so called “spirit guides” and their personalities and voila..!!!! wouldn’t you know it they were demons ( either by a variation of the spelling, the meaning of the name given or the behavior patterns manifested if angered and some other things). some people would despute this but i think we should realise that these spirits have been around for ages and they usually assume the personality of someone familiar until they get what they want or they are pissed of. the supernatural world is one thats in plain sight yet so hidden. its not one we’re likely to understand fully. ever. its clear though these conjured spirits want out of what ever state they are in and they will do anything to get that and get at you. even if it means looking and acting like your loving nana……ive seen some nasty stuff. all i can say to the sceptics is if you ever get the chance piss off a “guide”, you’ll be in for a hell of a show but i wouldn’t guarantee coming out in one piece. if you do lt me know. i got some diaries of what happened to me. and i nearly didnt make it.
Does anyone have an idea how long Heaven has existed. How intelligent do you think an angel is? They’ve had a very long time to exist, and probably enough time to learn more than mankind has learned in thousands of years. We’re talking about immortal or eternal beings. I wonder if they might be able to deceive mankind. Well, as people go, some will be deceived, and others will not.
I read the story of little girl who was visited by a spirit that appeared as her recently deceased grandma. The unclean spirit tried to deceive her, and the little girl declared loudly “You are not my grandma, get out of here!” That is when the spirit became grotesque, swearing, and cursing at the little girl. The evil spirit had to leave. I think the little girl knew how to pray, and her prayer forced it to leave. I wish my memory was more clear on this story. It is a great story.
Wow Jeff, that is a great story! Yes and that’s what they do, they deceive us into believing they are good spirits. Most people i imagine can recognise that they aren’t really good, apparently, from what i’ve heard, there is just something about them that they cannot cover up.
Sorry its taken so long to reply, i have been away.
