Take a look at Jeremiah 4:23 and Isaiah 45:18 and compare those to Genesis 1:2 I am sure you will find it very interesting.

Thanks for that, will check the book out.

"I believe that there is an undetermined amount of time between the phrases “in the beginning God created the heaven and the Earth” and “And the Earth was without form and void…”"

The above statement you make is thought provoking and I must admit that I have thought in a similar pattern myself at times.

I believe that there is an undetermined amount of time between the phrases "in the beginning God created the heaven and the Earth" and "And the Earth was without form and void..."

The original word was tohu which means to be wasted, laid waste, or empty.

So it is possible that the earth was around for a long time before it was made void and without form.

Right now I am reading a book called 101 Myths of the Bible which is supposed to show that these 'stories' originated with the Egyptians. The author makes sense in some of what he says but for the most part he is not convincing. Anyway, it is an interesting book if you ever get the chance to check it out.
